FISHERIES DEPARTMENT Functions   •  Preparation of long and medium term development plans for the fisheries sector in the Lake Basin Region. •  Liaison and coordination of inter-sectoral and inter-development matters on fisheries development. •  Identification, formulation and marketing of project proposals on the fisheries sector in the region. •  Coordination and harmonization of all fisheries development programmes in the Lake Basin Region. •  Provide a forum for linkage between research and development in the fishery sector. •  Monitoring and evaluation of fisheries development programmes in the Lake Basin Region. •  Conduct periodic studies in the fisheries sector. •  Development of a regional fisheries sector. •  Development and management of a regional fisheries data base. •  Facilitate and co-ordinate the development of appropriate training packages for stakeholders in the fisheries sector. •  Conduct feasibility studies in the fisheries sector. •  Formulation and provision of advice on the sustainable management, conservation, protection and utilization of all fisheries resources within the Lake Basin Region. •  Formulation and provision of guidance and advice on the departmental capacity building.
